Rail Park Awarded a KABOOM! Play Everywhere Philly Grant!

Kids spend 80% of their time outside of school, but cities often lack opportunities for play and informal learning outside the classroom. To close this gap, KABOOM! and the William Penn Foundation created the Play Everywhere Philly Challenge to support organizations looking to build playful learning opportunities in unexpected, but everyday spaces.

In 2024, Friends of the Rail park will work with Tiny WPA, FACTS Charter School and other neighborhood partners to bring a series of community-designed play installations to Rail Park Phase I. With the help of the Playful Learning Landscapes and WatchDog, this project will add playful, flexible installations to Phase I, catering to children and their caregivers, incorporating elements of playful learning and literacy. Stay tuned for ways to get involved in community build days in the months ahead, and for the grand unveiling in late summer/ early fall!
