A lively, enthusiastic [and well-dressed] crowd of fashion enthusiasts and Rail Park supporters came out for last Friday’s Viaducts of Fashion, a fundraiser in support of our friends with the Reading Viaduct Project, hosted at the former Victorian mansion-turned-office of CITYSPACE by Michael Garden, a long-time supporter of The Rail Park and a founding member of the Philadelphia-based collaboration known as SURFACE.
Featuring Bela Shehu's elegant, architectural line of women's apparel, NINOBRAND, Melissa D'Agostino's shibori hand-dyed silk and knit clothing and scarves, the event was the most successful fundraiser to date.
The concept for the event began with a late winter photo shoot with photographer Julia Blaukopf, during which the two designers and their models trekked up to the Viaduct. Blaukopf photographed the models wearing Shehu and D’Agostino’s pieces against the backdrop of a gray winter sky and framed by aging catenary atop the 9th Street Branch. The images were unveiled at the CITYSPACE event, where the designers’ lines were presented through a fashion show during an early cocktail reception.
